Exploring pattern, texture and dimension with one stencil set
Instructor: Aditi MahajanLanguage: English
How many different stories can one stencil set tell?
In this class, I’ll take one floral stencil set and use it in two completely different ways to create a pair of cards that feel connected, yet have their own distinct personalities.
We’ll work with the same cohesive colour palette across both cards, but explore how simply changing where those colours appear can completely shift the look and feel of a design. From there, we’ll play with pattern, texture, composition and dimension to discover just how versatile one set can be.
For our first card, we’ll use the stencilled florals as individual die-cut elements, arranging them over a richly textured embossed background to create depth and an organic, layered composition.
Then we’ll change direction for our second card, working directly onto the cardstock to create a bold, graphic one-layer design. We’ll use the same colours in different places and allow the background pattern to become part of the overall composition.
In this class, we’ll explore:
A Tale of Two Florals is ultimately about stretching your supplies through creative choices rather than simply adding more products. By the end of class, you’ll have two very different cards—and plenty of ideas for looking at the stencils already in your stash with fresh eyes.
